October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Our mission? To equip every UCF staff member, student and faculty with the knowledge and tools to safeguard themselves and fortify our university against cyber threats. Mark your calendars and participate in the month-long cybersecurity extravaganza detailed below!

Week 1

Trends in Fraud

This presentation outlines prevalent trends in fraud, focusing on various avenues exploited by perpetrators. It highlights theft by wire phishing as a significant threat, illustrating how cybercriminals manipulate individuals into divulging sensitive information. The discussion extends to the exploitation of social media platforms for fraudulent activities and the increasing incidents of cryptocurrency-related scams. Additionally, the presentation underscores the concerning rise of government impersonation fraud, shedding light on how criminals deceitfully assume official roles to manipulate victims into financial losses.

Ethical Implications of AI

This presentation, led UCF’s Vice President for Information Technology and CIO and Director of the UCF Center for Ethics and Associate Professor of Ethics and Digital Culture, will talk through ethical implications of AI in the context of information security. From privacy and property harms to transparency and explicability to resource allocation to public/private tensions, ethical issues of information security ay be exacerbated by the implementation of neural network driven AI applications.
